Title: Lead Cable Technician

VDI Communications, Inc., a Houston-based communication company, has an opening for a Lead Cable Technician. This position requires a minimum of 5 years foreman/supervisory experience. Likewise, this technician is must be well-rounded in all aspects of voice, data, coax and cameras. Fiber experience is a plus. Familiarity with extending analog phone lines and T1 circuits is a requirement. Basic familiarity with a Fluke Tester 1800 and 1200 is required (understand how to change simple settings and save test results). In addition, the Lead technician must have reliable truck for material transportation and personal tools such as; snips, punch tool (66 and 110 blade), high powered drill with necessary bits, toner, butt set and glow sticks for dropping walls. Must be able to work in small spaces and possibly at different heights. Proficiency using a computer is necessary (must be able to use email and send pictures of projects, etc.). Service troubleshooting will be very necessary which will range from A-Z in structured cabling and analog phone issues. This position will require travel and flexible working hours. The ability to adhere to spontaneous changes in schedule is mandatory. This position is a supervisory level position with advancement opportunities. Willingness to learn and excellent customer service skills are necessary. This is a full time, direct hire position with an extensive benefit package including, but not limited to; mileage, reimbursement and per diem as necessary.
Job Requirements:
- Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a DMV check
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 5 or more years supervisory experience
- Troubleshooting experience desired
- Mechanically inclined
- Ability to work flexible hours (Sunday ‘ Saturday)
- Customer service experience desired
- Certifications (lift, harness, etc.) is a plus
- Truck and personal tools are required
- Physical requirements include; climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting 50+lbs, reaching, and working in uncontrolled hot and cold environments
- Must live locally (Houston, Texas)
